Two friends were drinking at a bar in Moorhead but things took an odd turn when one of them put mayonnaise on the meal of the other.

Kristofer Erlbacher of Woodbine was charged for hitting and killing Caleb Solberg last December after the former reportedly put mayonnaise on the latter’s food.

The 29-year-old is being convicted of first-degree murder in a bench trial on Dec. 10, the Des Moines Register reported.

On that date, Erlbacher, Solberg and one other friend were at the bar drinking and eating. Erlbacher put mayonnaise on Solberg’s meal which resulted in the latter punching the 29-year-old.

"'It was just another bar fight in Harrison County,' until it wasn’t any longer," said Solberg's half-brother Craig Pryor during the trial, according to the verdict.

After the incident, Erlbacher would drive out with another friend to a café in Pisgah. But during the trip, he called Pryor and said that he would shoot Solberg with a shotgun. He also threatened the half-brother of the deceased.

The third person had already warned Pryor about Erlbacher at the time. Solberg would arrive a little bit later and spoke with Pryor. A fight broke would then result in the third person and Solberg.

Erlbacher would come out and leave after the fight ended. However, he rammed Pryor’s vehicle with the driver inside. When Pryor went out to check, he rammed the vehicle once more and hit Pryor.

Around 10:00 p.m. Erlbacher also struck Solberg with his 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. After the first blow did not kill the 30-year-old, he came back and then struck Solberg for a second time. Although the victim was already down, the 29-year-old drover over him another time to make sure he was dead.

"Even if Erlbacher is under the influence of alcohol, he is responsible for his acts if he had sufficient mental capacity to form the specific intent necessary," Harrison County Judge Greg Steensland wrote. "Intoxication is a defense, only when it causes a mental disability which makes a person incapable of forming specific intent."
