The rock community is reeling after Brad Arnold, lead vocalist and founding member of 3 Doors Down, revealed he has been diagnosed with stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma—an aggressive form of kidney cancer that has already spread to his lungs. Arnold, 46, shared the devastating news in an emotional video posted on the band's official social media channels on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
In the video, Arnold explained that after experiencing persistent illness for several weeks, he sought medical attention and was diagnosed with metastatic clear cell renal cancer.
Despite the gravity of the diagnosis, the singer appeared composed and optimistic:
"Hey, everybody, it's Brad from 3 DOORS DOWN. I hope you're having a great day today. I've got some not-so-good news for you today. So I'd been sick a couple of weeks ago and then went to the hospital and got checked out and had actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal [cell] carcinoma that had metastasized into my lung. And it's stage four, and that's not real good. But you know what? We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all. But it is gonna force us to cancel our tour this summer. And we're sorry for that. And I'd love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get. And I think it is time for me to maybe go listen to [3 DOORS DOWN's 2008 song] 'It's Not My Time' a little bit."
Cancellation of the 2025 tour
As a result of the diagnosis, 3 Doors Down has canceled all tour dates scheduled for 2025, including festival appearances and concerts with the band Creed. Among the canceled events is their performance at the Alaska State Fair, scheduled for August 29. Festival organizers have announced that all tickets purchased through their official website will be refunded.
The news has generated an outpouring of support and solidarity in the music community. Artists like Chris Daughtry and Creed frontman Scott Stapp expressed their support for Arnold on social media. Daughtry commented, "Sending you love, bro," while Stapp wrote, "If anyone has the faith and strength to face this fight, it's YOU, bro. You and your family are in my prayers daily."
Formed in 1996 in Escatawpa, Mississippi, 3 Doors Down rose to international fame with their debut single, "Kryptonite," in 2000. Their debut album, "The Better Life," was certified seven times platinum in the United States. Throughout their career, the band has sold more than 30 million records worldwide and has received multiple accolades, including Grammy nominations and American Music Awards.
A message of faith and resilience
Arnold, who celebrated nine years of sobriety in January, has been open about his Christian faith, which he considers fundamental to his life and career. In his message, he reiterated his trust in God and his determination to face his illness with courage and hope. "Thank you, guys. God loves you. We love you. See you around," he concluded his video, leaving a message of strength and gratitude for his followers.
The music community and 3 Doors Down fans continue to send messages of support and prayers for Brad Arnold's speedy recovery, hoping to see him back on stage in the near future.
