Ford Motor Company and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced that the all-new Ford Fusion Hybrid's EPA-certified 47 mpg city, 47 mpg highway, and 47 mpg combined fuel economy numbers make it the most fuel-efficient midsize sedan sold in North America. In fact, the Fusion Hybrid EPA rating tops the Toyota Camry Hybrid by 4 mpg in the city and a whopping 8 mpg on the highway.
Delighted with the results, Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally said, "The new Fusion is part of our plan to offer vehicles with the very best quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart design and value. We are absolutely committed to class-leading fuel efficiency as a reason to buy Ford vehicles, with customers able to choose the fuel-efficient powertrain that best fits their lifestyle."
Not only does the Fusion hybrid drivetrain boast the most fuel-efficient performance in its class, the complete Fusion range offers a selection of fuel efficient engines as well. The Fusion offers both hybrid and Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid variants as well as a 1.6 liter Ecoboost and 2.0 liter Ecoboost four-cylinder engine option. Adding a cherry on top, Ford also includes its patented Auto Start-Stop system to shut off the engine at idle in order to further improve mpg ratings during city drives.
Finally, the Ford Fusion will be one of the few midsize vehicles to offer front-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive as well as six-speed automatic and even six-speed manual transmission options.
Ford Americas president Mark Fields says, "Ford is bringing power of choice to midsize sedan buyers. More than 2 million customers this year will purchase midsize cars. Our new Fusion delivers the fuel savings people truly want and value, with technologies that cost two to three times the price on some German sedans."
