As was the Ford C-Max Hybrid, so too the Ford Fusion Hybrid. Ford has announced that its upcoming Fusion Hybrid has attained an EPA rating of 47-mpg in both city and highway driving.
A properly impressive figure, the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid manages to out-spec its main competitors including the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid all while offering a respectable power output of 188-hp from its plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
Competition among the mid-size hybrid segment is fiercer than you think. The Camry Hybrid is estimated at a 43 mpg city and 39 mpg highway, falling way short of the Fusion Hybrid's 47 combined. However, the Camry is a justified purchase in its own right as not only is it rated to produce 200-hp, 23-hp more than the fusion hybrid, but it's MSRP $1,000 is less than the Fusion as well. Handling and destination fees included, the 2013 Fusion Hybrid carries a price tag of $27,895.
In this highly-sought market, the Fusion is positioned to be a solid contender at any price. At 47 mpg combined, its fuel economy numbers are even better than the Toyota Prius V, which posts a 44 mpg city, 40 highway, and 42 combined. Finally, there is one other thing other than its fuel economy that makes the Fusion a contender -- a trick of the stroke, the Fusion's lines form a solid and attractive avante garde exterior.
Expect the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid to enter the market later in the fall season.
