The battle between Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera doesn't seem to end.

It all started back in 1999 when they fought to win awards and recognitions at the beginning of their careers and their marketing teams took advantage of their parallel careers, making them grow as rivals in front of our eyes.

From 2000 to 2003, both artists' sales were soaring, but Britney’s went much higher than Christina’s, even though the "Beautiful" singer reached amazing numbers with her most successful album, "Stripped."

In 2007, when Britney had the most horrible blackout of her life, we clearly thought her career was over. Notwithstanding all the gossips and news all over the world, the princess of pop rose like a phoenix years later, surprising everybody and reinventing herself throughout until now.

There's no denying they’re both great artists, but whether you like it or not, 2016 was the year of Britney. Let’s take a look why she definitely has surpassed Aguilera this year.

Less Talent, More Consistency

Christina’s talent is undeniable and every time we listen to anything she makes, we just float in the air because of her amazing voice. But due to her lack of consistency in the music scene in 2016, Aguilera has not been a constant on pop music listeners' memories as much as Britney, who has released four albums from 2008 until 2016 and has delighted her fans with two World Tours in the last five years and a massive Vegas Residency.

Vegas Residency

Britney’s residency has been a very good source of energy for Brit to dance and remind her fans and the new generation of her best hits. The event has had great critics and made Brit’s last album "Glory" reach 111,000 copies sold in its first week. The show, held at The AXIS auditorium located in the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, opened December 27, 2013.

"Lotus" Vs. "Glory"

"Lotus," which is the last reference from Aguilera, only sold 73,408 units becoming Aguilera's English-language studio album with the lowest first week sales. This means that the singer's next album has got to be really successful to surpass her last flop. In other news, "Glory" sold 111,000 in its first week and the numbers have been going up since then. Britney has over 100 million albums sold while Aguilera has only 51 million albums in 2016.

Presence On Social Media

Today everything is about social media. Brit’s team has worked really hard on her public image and you can see it through all of her networks. Her IG (opened November 2, 2011) reaches above 14.3 million followers and her Twitter has 49.9 million with 4,995 tweets, and was opened in September 2008. The campaign for every song, album release or any product for the brand "Britney Spears," is priority. On the other side, Xtina opened her Instagram on November 5, 2013 and has only 3.6 million followers with 191 posts, while on Twitter, she’s under Britney with 16.2 million followers and only 967 tweets. This year Aguilera's image through the networks hasn't been much promoted like Brit's.

Projects for 2017

We haven’t heard a whole album from Aguilera since 2012, only featured songs here and there. It’s been almost 5 years since the singer doesn’t please her fans with an anticipated LP that she's been promising but is not even confirmed for 2017. Meanwhile, Britney launched her "Glory" album this year having good reviews and is already recording a new one for 2017.

"The Voice" Vs. "X Factor"

While "X Factor" had Britney as a judge, the show reached more than 14 million viewers on ratings. "The Voice's" last season with Christina reached 12 million viewers with a 3.3 rating.

Fake Attitude Fame Vs. Charming Brit

Christina’s alleged bad attitude has been slowly destroying her career through the years. Staff members and contestants from "The Voice" expressed this year their discomfort with Xtina’s behavior. We’ve been listening about this forever, like when Britney confessed that it wasn’t herself the one who was distant during the MTV Video Music Awards rehearsal but the other way around. "A lost girl? I think it's probably the other way around. I can't believe she said that about me. When someone has been rude to you so many times, it's like, 'You know what, Christina, I'm really not about the fake anymore,," she said, according to US Weekly. Britney on her side, has been supported by a lot of artists during 2016 and she is known for being totally approachable.
