It looks like everything “Arrow” fans feared would happen has started, with Season 8 announced as the show's final run.

While the news comes as a shock to viewers, who thought that Arrowverse shows have become immune to cancellation, deep down they may have already seen this coming. This is especially because this “Arrow” Season 8 bombshell seems to have been teased in the previous crossover.

In last year's “Elseworlds,” Oliver made a deal with The Monitor to save Barry and Kara, but what he did to make that happen was never really revealed. It was only teased that fans will learn more about it instead in the next crossover, “Crisis On Infinite Earths.”

The upcoming crossover is based on a classic comic book story of the same name that ended with The Flash's death. Many thought that Oliver might die in Barry's place. It makes sense because the crisis was not supposed to happen until 2024 and that “Arrow” Season 8 will only have 10 episodes, which is right around the typical crossover air date.

Despite the clues, fans never really imagined that Oliver would actually bite the dust because then “Arrow” will be left with no lead. They also held on to Eobard Thawne's claim in Season 1 of “The Flash” that Oliver gets to live up to 86 years.

However, it would seem that the rumored death could very well be happening. Not all hope is lost, though. Shortly after the announcement, Stephen Amell teased on Facebook live that even though the show is coming to an end, he may not be hanging his hood and bow just yet.

“Something tells me that even when I'm done, I won't be gone. If you watch the Arrowverse, you should understand that,” he concluded the video. Whether or not this means that the Green Arrow will pop back up in crossovers or on other Arrowverse shows is unclear, but with how bold The CW has become over the years, it certainly is likely.

The decision to end “Arrow” with a shortened Season 8 was mutually decided by Amell and the producers. It was their hope that the show will end while at its peak instead of overstaying its welcome.

“Arrow” Season 7 airs every Monday on The CW.
