Memorial Day weekend in New York City was just another cool Spring day. Tourists flooded Times Square, and joggers on Staten Island were proudly sporting shorts in some cases. However, 300 miles to the north in the very same state, the weather was much different.

At Whiteface Mountain, a ski resort in the far northern reaches of the Empire State, officials recorded that 3 feet of snow had fallen over the weekend. Nearby Plattsburgh, N.Y. and Burlington, Vt. also recorded heavy snowfall for this time of year.
Mike Muccilli of the National Weather Service station in Burlington told the Associated Press that Mount Mansfield in nearby Stowe, Vt. had recorded over a foot of snow in that same time period.
The Daily Mail reported that by comparison, Syracuse, in western upstate New York, only saw a smattering of flurries on Friday evening. It remains to be seen whether summer will eventually arrive weather-wise next month for those near Lake Champlain.
