What is the most terrifying race of all time? 24 Hours of Nurburgring? Perhaps. But a lot of people, namely Aussies, will make a very strong argument about Bathurst. Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit is the single most treacherous race track in Australia. It is a diabolical mix of narrow public roads, steep and sharp elevation changes, and multiple high speed straights before a banzai into the braking zone. Blind corners and hairpins are thrown in for good measure. If one makes a mistake, limited run-off areas will ruin even the best of drivers.
The Bathurst 12 Hour is this weekend. A total of six classes will be racing in this extreme endurance event. The slowest class will be front-wheel-drive touring cars, including Fiat 500 Abarths and Ford Focus GTCs. The top tier class is the GT3 spec, including the hardcore Erebus Motorsport Mercedes SLS GT3, the Audi R8 LMS Ultra, the Team Racing Incident Lamborghini Gallardo, and the Nismo GT-R GT3.
