“American Sniper” director, Clint Eastwood, who just turned 85, will be taking the heroic story of commercial pilot Chesley Sullenberger, also known as ‘Sully,’ to the big screen. The pilot is responsible for the miraculous landing of the US Airways plane on the Hudson River, thanks to which all 155 people aboard survived. The film will be based on the biographic book, “Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters,” by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. “I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall,” Sullenberger told BBC News.
The movie will allegedly focus on the behind-scenes drama that took place inside the plane before everyone knew they’d be safe. Reportedly, the airliner Sullenberger was piloting had to land right after takeoff because the engines weren't working and his only solution was to use the Hudson River as his runway, and had it not been so, it could have cost him “his reputation and his wings.”
The movie script will be written by Todd Komarnicki and producer Frank Marshall has been working on the project ever since he acquired the film rights to the book in 2010. “The project could not have found a better home than Warner Bros. Pictures. This is truly a dream team,” affirmed the pilot. A release for the film has yet to be announced as well as the location and kick-off.
