Cotto vs Canelo showdown

Latin Times is in Las Vegas and ready to bring you live round-by-round coverage of the anticipated middleweight championship fight between Puerto Rico's Miguel Cotto and Mexico's Canelo Alvarez.

The middleweight bout will begin at 11:30PM EST from the Mandalay Bay arena in Las Vegas. Alvarez is the challenger, but comes in as the favorite to win the fight. This match should be a Latin American war in the ring that you won't want to miss.

After the Mexican, Puerto Rican and American national anthems are peformed, Canelo comes to the ring in a black robe and traditional Mexican blanket wrapped around his waist. Cotto follows in a pink hoodie with wireless headphones. Robert Byrd is announced as the referee for the fight. Canelo will wear purple shorts and Cotto wears black trunks.

Main Event: Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez Ring Magazine and WBC Middleweight Championships

Round 1:
Cotto is the agressor in Round 1. The audience is on pins and needles as they chant "Ca-nel-o!" Both fighters are standing toe-to-toe and throwing big punches, but both are missing. Cotto has better movement, but Canelo has the stronger punches early. Round 1 goes to Cotto by a hair for being the agressor.

Round 2:
Again both fighters trade blows. CompuBox shows Cotto threw more punches in Round 1. The Puerto Rican continues to throw a straight right, while Canelo is throwing left and right hooks. The pace picks up with two minutes left in the round. Canelo is more aggressive in this round, but Cotto's defense is improved since the last time we saw him in the ring. Fans still chant Canelo's name. Cotto looked like the better fighter in Round 2. Cotto wins the round.

Round 3:
Ring judge gives the second round to Canelo. We have no gripes with that as his punches look better. However, both rounds could have gone either way. Both fighters do damage to each other in this right. Its literally an even tie. Since we gave Cotto the last round, we'll give this one to Canelo. Round 3 goes to Canelo.

Round 4:
This is such a close fight through three rounds. Cotto is moving better, as he surrounds Canelo on all sides, but when he strikes, Canelo strikes with more power and force. Cotto is landing jabs and hooks, Canelo's right-counter has been his best punch tonight. Another close round. I give this one to Cotto. Round 4 Cotto.

Round 5:
Ring judge has the fight tied after four rounds. We have it three rounds to four, but this could go either way. Canelo lands a hard left, and Cotto comes charging back with a flurry of combinations. Hard overhand lands for Canelo. This is definitely the Mexican's round. Canelo lands an uppercut! Easy round for Canelo.

Round 6:
Canelo lands a lot of power punches in Round 5, and comes back in Round 6. Freddie Roach is telling Cotto to not let Canelo come forward and keep throwing his jab and moving. Canelo lands a great two-punch combo and is dodging and ducking Cotto's shots. This is a better round for Cotto, but Canelo still seems to be in charge. Canelo takes Round 6.

Round 7:
Cotto tries to go toe-to-toe with Canelo in the center of the ring, but it does not work out and Canelo makes Cotto pay with a right uppercut. Canelo takes Round 7.

Round 8:
Canelo is starting to run away from this fight. Great action this fight. Cotto lands some body shots, but Canelo is making him pay with uppercuts. Great reflexes by Canelo to dodge all Cotto's crosses. He's the bigger fighter and better fighter right now. Canelo does damage this round to Cotto. Great round for Cotto as far as punches landed, but he still loses the round. Canelo takes round 8 with more power punches. Canelo wins the round.

Round 9:
People in the arena think Cotto may have stolen round 8, but if he did, he was beaten badly by Canelo to do it. He's definitely trailing the fight, and does not carry over the aggressiveness in round 9. The theme of this fight continues. Body shots by Cotto, and big uppercuts by Canelo. Once again, Canelo takes the round with the power punches. Canelo wins Round 9.

Round 10:
Mexican fans in attendance are singing and cheering Canelo on here in Round 10. However, Canelo lands some amazing combinations and steals the round at the end. Canelo takes round 10.

Round 11:
Canelo's size is too much for Cotto in this round and in this fight. Freddie Roach thinks they are leading on the scorecard, but Canelo should be in control. Cotto landed a combination. Canelo lands a few, but Cotto looks like he might take this round. We give round 11 to Cotto.

Round 12:
Final Round. Canelo appears to be in firm control with less than three minutes left. Cotto needs a knockout to win and so both are going for the KO. Canelo does not look afraid to go after Cotto despite leading on the scorecards. Canelo is dominating this final round so far. The Puerto Rican and Mexican rivalry is about to come to a close. Cotto is cut and bleeding. Canelo needs just a minute to take the WBC belts from Cotto. Canelo wins the final round and should win the fight.
