Jasmine Crockett Says The Late Show's 'Strategy' To Not Air Talarico's Interview 'Probably Gave My Opponent The Boost he Was Looking For'

Rep. Jasmine Crockett is leading State Rep. James Talarico by more than 10 points in the Texas Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, according to a new poll.

The survey, conducted by pollsters at the University of Texas' Texas Politics Project, showed Crockett getting 56% of the support, compared to Talarico's 44%. It was conducted between February 2 and 16 among 369 voters and has a margin of error of +/-5.1 points. Both candidates had positive favorability ratings (Crockett +10 and Talarico +18).

The poll also showed that Crockett got the vast majority of prospective support from Black voters, with 87% choosing her over Talarico. She is also leading among senior voters and those without a college degree, according to The Texas Tribune.

Crockett has also highlighted a recent internal poll showing she would beat Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in an eventual general election between the two.

The survey in question was conducted by Hart Research among likely voters earlier this month, according to Political Polls. It shows Crockett getting 49% of the support, compared to Paxton's 45%.

Another recent poll also showed the U.S. lawmaker ahead. Conducted by the University of Houston's Hobby School of Public Affairsm, it had Crockett with 47% of the support, compared to James Talarico's 39%. 12% of respondents said they were undecided.

The poll showed Crockett leading Talarico among all key demographics except for White voters and those with an advanced degree. 46% of likely Latino voters said they support Crockett, compared to 37% who chose Talarico. 15% said they were unsure. It is a contrast with other polls saying Talarico had an advantage with Latino voters.

Looking at Republican candidates, the survey found that Paxton and incumbent Sen. John Cornyn are likely headed to a runoff, with the former getting 36% of the support, compared to the latter's 34%. Rep. Wesley Hunt was on third place with 26% of the prospective votes. It surveyed 350 registered voters and has a margin of error of +/-5.2 points.
