Blogger Amy Erickson of Oh, Bite It! recently created an interesting concoction: deep fried tequila. What does it taste like? The blogger tells Latin Times it tastes like a subtle Tequila flavored funnel cake. Erickson, who created this concoction in one try, recommends serving the fried tequila in shot glasses for aesthetics and for portion control.

As for inspiration, the blogger reveals how she came up with the idea. "I wanted to come up with a fun State-Fair-style cocktail," said Erickson.

For a little history on the distilled beverage, it was first created in Tequila, Mexico in the 1500s by the Spanish. The native Aztecs are said to have made a beverage from the blue agave before the Spanish but there's no information regarding whether or not that drink was similar to Tequila. Tequila is made of blue agave Jalisco which is produced in select states in Mexico, including: Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, and Tamaulipas. While it is Mexico's national drink, Americans purchase 12.3 million cases of tequila a year.

INGREDIENTS: Oil (for frying), Powdered Sugar (for dusting), Sponge Cake or Angel Food Cake, and your favorite Tequila

DIRECTIONS:

1. Cube the Angel Food Cake into small squares. The squares should be small enough so you can pop it into your mouth.

2. Dip each cube in tequila. Keep in mind that the more you dip, the stronger they will be.

3. Heat a pot with the oil and fry the cubes until they are golden on each side.

4. Once you remove the squares from the oil, allow them to cool on the paper towel and absorb any excess oil.

5. You can serve the cubes in shot glasses with decorated rims. For this, you'll need lime zest and frosting. Dip the rim in frosting and stick the zest on the rim by rolling it on.
