A DoorDash delivery driver slipped past airport security and drove up to an airplane, attempting to drop off an order before he was stopped by police minutes later.

The DoorDasher's red Hyundai Elantra was captured on airport surveillance video obtained by WGN Investigates entering the restricted area through a security gate. The private Lincoln Security guard hired to patrol the gate said she closed the gate because she thought the car was "strange and unfamiliar." She did not, however, notify her direct supervisor or the operations center.

The delivery driver, who said he was following his GPS' directions, was then seen pulling alongside a United Airlines airplane around noon on May 17. Baggage handlers stopped the driver and waited nearly 10 minutes before a Chicago police officer arrived to rectify the situation.

Police found the food order and DoorDash receipt in the driver's car and he was not cited for any violations. The private security guard, however, was let go from her position with Lincoln Security.

"Following this incident, [Chicago Department of Aviation] leadership met with the contractor, Lincoln Security, to review what occurred and referred the matter to the Transportation Security Administration for further investigation," Kevin Bargnes, spokesperson for the Chicago Department of Aviation, told WGN Investigates. "The employee involved is no longer employed by Lincoln Security, and their airport credentials have been terminated by the CDA."

It is unclear whether the delivery driver is still employed by DoorDash or if the customer received their meal.
