Donald J Trump may have set a new record for number of people that he has offended on Monday when he released a statement calling for the “total and complete ban” on Muslims entering the U.S. His proposed religious test has been rejected by constitutional scholars, world leaders, and refugee advocates, among others. The titles of anti-Trump op-eds range from “ Donald Trump's real threat is making extreme bigots seem moderate” to “Forget Muslim terrorists – Donald Trump is the real danger to America.” The Huffington Post, long enjoying the laughs generated by Trump’s whoopie cushion campaign, declared that the candidate is no longer funny.
The consequences of Trump’s rhetoric are far-reaching, newsworthy and very serious. But as we at the Latin Times struggle to recover our breath from this last breathtaking announcement, let’s enjoy some of the good spirit and clever with which people have responded to Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from the U.S. Here are 4 funny or novel reactions we’ve found so far. Let us know in the comments if we missed a one.
1) Send Trump Into Space (One-Way Ticket)
Donald Trump hurled enough volleys of invective at Amazon and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos to get a response. Trump, he said, would get a set on his new rocket booster, and get hurled into space for good.
Finally trashed by @realDonaldTrump. Will still reserve him a seat on the Blue Origin rocket. #sendDonaldtospace https://t.co/9OypFoxZk3

2) Hitler Comparisons: Trump Doesn’t Mind
When politicians or activists compare their opponents to Hitler and 1930s-era Nazi politics, it’s usually a sign of intellectual laziness. The rhetorical tactic has been lodged against politicians on both side of the aisle (George W. Bush and Barack Obama can attest to this).

But what is draw dropping about Trump does not mind these comparisons, Politico reports. When shown that Philadelphia Daily News cover on a morning talk show, he was nonplused. He’s also been unwilling to shrug off the support of neonazis, saying this of his KKK supporters: “ a lot of people like me.”

3) J.K. Rowling: Trump Is Worse Than Voldemort
Harry Potter series author J.K. Rowling scoffed at Trump's proposal, saying it went further than that of Voldemort, the evil villain who kills Harry Potter’s parents, and attempts to murder the boy in his crib. In one book, it’s revealed that he’s cheated death by splitting his soul into pieces.
How horrible. Voldemort was nowhere near as bad. https://t.co/hFO0XmOpPH

4) Trump “Travel Ban” Issued In Florida City
“Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on,” Trump’s statement on Muslims read. Now his words are being tossed back at him as leaders seek to ban him.
St. Petersburg, Florida, Mayor Rick Kriseman tweeted this “ban” Trump.
I am hereby barring Donald Trump from entering St. Petersburg until we fully understand the dangerous threat posed by all Trumps.

That was probably a joke as mayors can’t ban people from their cities any more than governors can ban people from their states (though Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas is exploring his options with regards to Syrian refugees vetted by the federal government).
Hilarious, right? But there’s a real travel ban being proposed by national leaders in the U.K. who are calling for a “real discussion” on preventing him from traveling to Britain or, as Labour home office minister Jack Dromey put it to the Mirror “1,000 miles of our shores.”
