GM is scheduled to bring over the Aussie favorite Holden Commodore to our shores as a rebadged Chevrolet SS by 2014. The new Chevrolet SS will be based on the latest updated VF generation Commodore with styling tweaks inspired by the crisp lines of the Chevy Volt and Cruze models.

A very popular platform from the land down under, activity from GM suggest that the new Chevy SS sedan won't be the only thing the Australian transplant has to offer. According to GM Authority, General Motors handed in a trademark filing with the U.S. Patents and Trademarks Office to renew the "El Camino" moniker.

A bizarre yet fantastic automotive incarnation of a bitchin' mullet, the old El Camino SS was essentially a Chevelle SS muscle car for a party at the front and a truck bed for an even bigger party at the back.

While mullet hairstyles have quickly fallen out of vogue, a proper car-based pickup, or 'Ute', just might turn out to be the coolest thing thing to come out of GM North America since the badass Cadillac CTS-V Wagon.

As far we we know, Chevy has not given the green light to the project but if it did, the Chevrolet SS El Camino is expected to feature the same platform and body proportion as the sports sedan save for a slightly longer wheelbase. The SS will likely feature an LT1-derived 6.2 liter V8 engine producing 415-hp and 415 lb.-ft. of torque.

Back in Australia, the spokesman for the automaker said that no decision on further exports have been made at this time but the options are open.
