The brand new series tells the story of Princess Elena, a bold, caring, funny and clever 16-year-old who is ascendant to the throne in the fairytale kingdom of Avalor.

The series follows the story of Elena, who saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn to rule with the support of her appointed Grand Council and some magical friends by her side. Elena’s adventures will lead her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders, while highlighting the importance of family and family traditions.

According to the company’s announcement early last year, “Elena lives in an enchanted fairytale kingdom inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore, with the supporting cast which will include Elena’s grandfather Francisco, her grandmother Luisa, adviser Chancellor Esteban, and wizard-in-training Mateo.”

At the time, Nancy Kanter , Executive Vice President and General Manager of Disney Junior Worldwide, also explained why the new, Latina inspired princess is so special, “What excites us most is the chance to use distinctive animation and visual design to tell wonderful stories influenced by culture and traditions that are familiar to the worldwide population of Hispanic and Latino families and reflect the interests and aspirations of all children as told through a classic fairy tale.”

Ortega is joining Dominican actress Aimee Carrero who will voice her character’s big sister, Elena. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.
