Angélica Rivera has spent the night in hospital with her daughter, Regina Castro, who had to undergo emergency surgery for appendicitis. Mexico's First Lady, known affectionately as "La Gaviota" confirmed the news on her Facebook account saying "Luckily, and thanks to God, I arrived in time to look after her and be with her. I'm sending a strong hug to all of you and I hope to be back with you all soon," wrote the Rivera to the citizens of Baja California where an event she was supposed to lead was canceled.

Angélica Rivera's daughter, Regina Castro, is La Gaviota's youngest child from her marriage with José Alberto "El Güero" Castro. The 8-year-old thankfully had a successful surgery and is recovering. Regis, as her mom calls her, must have had a very scary time of it. While nowadays appendicitis surgery is a fairly routine operation, symptoms can be extremely painful and uncomfortable. The surgery also requires general anesthetic, which for a girl of Regina's age can be frightening and carry some risks.

Angélica Rivera is spending rather a lot of time in the emergency room: this is the second time in a year that she has been in the emergency room of a hospital. In February this year, Rivera had to go to the emergency room to look after her daughter, Sofía Castro, who was suffering from terrible stomach pains. Thankfully Sofia recovered quickly, and, unlike her little sister, didn't need surgery. "I was in and out in the same day. Thanks to God I am very well and it was just in and out and I was able to go straight to the theater to perform," said Sofia.
