A body language expert alleged France's President Emmanuel Macron "concealed anger" after his wife, Brigitte, publicly "shoveled" his face on Sunday while deboarding in Vietnam at the start of the first couple's official tour in Southeast Asia.
Jesús Enrique Rosas, known professionally as "The Body Language Guy," analyzed the French president's demeanor during and after Sunday night's shocking interaction in a viral X thread shared Monday.
Although the first couple attempted to dismiss the incident as "playful teasing," Rosas wrote that the president "didn't expect the gesture, since his body was relaxed." He went on to call Brigitte's action a "shoveling" since she "used both hands to push Macron's head backwards," leaving the president stunned as he realizes "everyone out there just witnessed the incident."
(2/7) This is one split second before the 'shoving'. This is how we know that Macron didn't expect the gesture, since his body was relaxed, he had a neutral expression and his left hand/wrist was relaxed as well. pic.twitter.com/3EjeMg8UlS

The Body Language Guy wrote Macron was clearly "startled" judging by his attempt to anchor himself by placing his hand on the jet's door, "something that we do under stress (touch the wall, a chair, something), without really leaning or using it as support." Macron then "used a dominant handshake (palm down)" with a bystander before exiting the plane.
"Maybe he wanted to feel 'dominant' in one way of another after that shove," Rosas speculated.
(6/7) Forgot to mention that upon exiting the plane, Macron gave a handshake to the guy waiting for them, and used a dominant handshake (palm down).

Maybe he wanted to feel 'dominant' in one way of another after that shove. Better this than shoving Brigitte down the stairs, I… pic.twitter.com/kPB1LyEnWO
After collecting himself, Macron offered his arm to his wife, which she ignored. When the first couple reached the waiting party at the bottom of the boarding stairs, "Macron's left hand is in a white knuckle fist, a common sign of concealed anger. His face is also beyond serious: that downward brow area is not part of his usual body language baseline," Rosas wrote.
"He's got a squarish head, but the jaw looks broader than usual. With those lips pressing, my guess is that he was clenching his jaw and his jaw muscles were protruding because of the pressure," Rosas continued.
(7/7) After all the greeting, we have this photo. Macron's left hand is in a white knuckle fist, a common sign of concealed anger. His face is also beyond serious: that downward brow area is not part of his usual body language baseline.

Many social media users agreed with Rosas' interpretation of the interaction.
"Anyone pushing someone in the face with both hands seems to be upset, it's disrespectful unless it's deserved," one X user wrote.
"He looks the same as Trump when Melania refused to hold his hand," another joked.
Earlier this month, Macron again made headlines for all the wrong reasons when social media users alleged France's president attempted to hide a bag of cocaine while meeting with officials in Ukraine; a claim the European nation's media denied.
