The on-again, off-again Grand Prix of America event is so off... again.
While it was certainly a high order for the execs at the Weehawken, New Jersey, venue to meet the contractual agreements in time, many racing enthusiasts held onto a glimmer of hope that things would pan out.
Now, according to Formula 1 president Bernie Ecclestone, the Grand Prix of America at Weehawken's Port Imperial will push its inaugural F1 race to the 2014 calendar due to construction delays caused by a slow arrival of funding, road repair, and more delays from the permit issuance process.
Additional investments are needed to complete a number of Hudson Riverfront facilities as well as the pits and paddock garage.
Despite the obstacles, Ecclestone said, "I remain totally committed to the Port Imperial race and its unique location and attributes, and we will continue to work closely together to realize our dream in 2014."
While it's always good to know that Ecclestone and the racing body remain committed to holding onto a race in New Jersey, we kind of hope that perhaps Weekhawken could hire a couple more interns to speed things up to make it by 2013 again.
