Airbases in Iraq that house US troops were attacked the past weekend. Both American and Iraqui soldiers were injured but none of them is in a critical state. Tehran has not claimed responsibility but there is a possibility that this is the second part of their missile attacks that started last week.

According to Fox News, American soldiers and at least one Iraqi air force officer were injured on Sunday when Iran launched a rocket that targets the Balad Air Base located in the northern part of Baghdad. The base is about 50 miles away from the capital and it is being occupied by the US troops.

Then again, it was said that only a few Americans were left as they have already been pulled out from the base due to the developing tensions between Iran and the U.S. Iraqui soldiers were also hurt in the attack after six mortar shells fell in the Balad airbase.

Mike Pompeo, US Secretary of State, was outraged and said that he hopes Iraq will not let the incident pass. “Outraged by reports of another rocket attack on an Iraqi airbase,” he tweeted on Jan. 13. “I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and call on the Government of #Iraq to hold those responsible for this attack on the Iraqi people accountable.”

At this time, it was reported that there is still no claim of responsibility for the rocket attack in the base. The only fortunate thing about this incident is that no one has died.

On Sunday, Jan. 12, the Al Balad base was attacked and it came just a few days after Iran launched missiles at two Iraqui based that houses American soldiers. In this particular base, it was reported that it houses American advisers, trainers and a company that was contracted to maintain the F-16 aircraft.

The tension between the US and Iran resulted from the death of the Iraqui General Qasem Soleimani. He was killed after Donald Trump ordered an on-air attack early this month. The leaders of Iran vowed to retaliate but they committed a huge mistake last week when their missile launches mistakenly targeted a Ukranian passenger plane where all 176 people aboard have died.
