George A. Romero's New York City based zombie comic series "Empire of the Dead" is coming to AMC as a new TV series, according to the comics artist Arthur Suydam.

The news broke when Suydam spoke with WHAS11 at the Louisville Wizard World Comic Con, reports Comicbook.com. The artist can be seen holding up a copy of "Empire of the Dead" saying he just finished work on the comic series and that "This just got signed by AMC, so it's going to be the next, big zombie series on AMC."

Early this year it was announced at Cannes that the production company Demarest was adapting the comic series into a TV show. Back then it was reported that the series will be written and executive produced by Romero and Peter Grunwald. Furthermore, according to Variety Demarest executives Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson would also serve as executive producers.

"Empire of the Dead" will feature zombies similar to those in Romero's "Living Dead" series of films. One way the series will be different from shows like "The Walking Dead" is it will introduce vampires as part of the storyline.

The mini-series took place over 15 issues, which was initially released back in January 2014 and ended in August of this year.
