Giovani dos Santos has been taken off El Tri's lineup for the match against Nigeria next Wednesday due to a leg injury. His place will be taken by Raúl Jiménez. The head of the Mexican Football Federation's Selection Committee revealed that the Villareal player "complained of pain in his left leg following the match against Betis." He has been ruled out of the match against Nigeria, however, there have been no comments regarding his place in the World Cup team.

The Selection Committee explained that "clinical studies were done on Giovani which revealed he had suffered a possible miofascial rupture to his left calf, for which he has been taken off the National Mexican Selection which will face Nigeria on the 5th of March in Atlanta." Given the situation, Miguel Herrera decided to call up America striker Raul Jimenez to take Dos Santos' is place for next Wednesday's match. He did not comment on Giovani's place for future matches.

El Tri will be traveling to Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, where they will meet Nigeria's 'Green Eagles' in the only FIFA match prior to the World Cup in Brazil. Dos Santos's loss will make things complicated for Miguel 'El Piojo' Herrera who wanted to use the friendly against Nigeria as an opportunity to test out Dos Santos and other players who play in European leauges in terms of their fit with other players in El Tri in the lead up to the World Cup.
