For the eighth year in a row, Uber has revealed the composition of its Lost & Found Index. And, same as last year, the most "forgetful" city in the U.S. is located in Florida. After Jacksonville topped the ranks in 2023, it was Miami's turn to clock in at first this time around, edging out Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston and Dallas, who round up the top 5. Two other cities from the sunshine state made it to the top 10: Orlando (6) and Tampa Bay (8).

The index bills itself as "snapshot of the most surprising and most popular items left behind in Ubers" and offers a wide array of insights about people's behavior while using the popular car sharing app. For example, 9pm and 10pm were the time frames when most people reported lost items and January 21st was the most forgetful day of the whole year.

But the most interesting part of the index has to do with the items themselves, with several head-scratching trends. For example, the top lost car keys belonged to Mini Cooper owners, the most popular color of lost items was red and there was a significant uptick of healing crystals left behind.

Furthermore, the Index provides a list of top 50 most "unique" lost items, which includes someone's frontal hair toupee, two containers filled with spiders, a candle that says "see you in court" and a jar of oysters. People also seem to leave behind plenty of food items. That list includes a whole smoked pork belly, a mason jar with cilantro, a tray of meat pie and, obviously, pizza.

While the list is lighthearted fun, Uber included a list instructions to follow in case you forget an item behind:

  1. Open the Uber app and tap "Activity" on the bottom icon menu.
  2. Select the trip on which you lost the item.
  3. Scroll down to "Find lost item" in the Help section, and then "Contact driver about a lost item."
  4. Enter your phone number to call the driver.
  5. If your driver picks up and confirms that your item has been found, coordinate a mutually convenient time and place to meet for its return to you.
  6. If your driver doesn't pick up, leave a detailed voicemail describing your item and the best way to contact you.
