In September "Harry Potter" author and Warner Bros. studios caused quite a frenzy on the Internet when they announced a spinoff movie adapted from Rowlings book "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." With the announcement came the news that this new film will be set in the wizarding world that "Harry Potter" was in. But this new film with follow Magizoologist Newt Scamander, a professor of magical creatures, and the events will all take place 70 years before Harry and the gangs adventures. Entertainment Weekly caught up with Producer David Heyman who disclosed some news on the film.
In an interview with EW on the red carpet of his new production "Gravity" David Heyman spilled some information on "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them" saying, "Jo is at work" and tremendously excited about the project. "She's not doing it for any other reason other than she loves the world and she had a story that she wanted to tell," he said. "It's incredibly exciting," he continued. "She doesn't have to go back to this world, but something pulled her back. This is not Harry Potter. This is not Harry, Ron, and Hermione. This is a separate story within a universe related to the Potter universe."
When asked about what type of beast would make an appearance in the film Heyman teased, "We follow Newt on his adventures."
And you better believe there is no shortage of ideas for J.K. Rowling when it comes to "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them" said Heyman. "The fact that she's going to this world means there are stories to tell," he said. "When I was doing the Harry Potters, what was clear to me is that Jo's knowledge of this world is infinite. What you read in the books was just the surface of her knowledge," he said. "She had notebook upon notebook of stuff. I would call her and say, 'What's the sixth use of dragon's blood?' and she'd have it at her fingertips."
Rowling herself will be the screenwriter for the upcoming film. She came up with a plan for a movie after Warner Bros. suggested the idea. The story will feature Newt Scamander as a main character and will not be a sequel or a prequel to the Potter adventures, instead kicking off in New York, 70 years before Harry's story starts. No release date has been announced yet.
