Meghan Markle has been criticized ever since she joined the royal family. But by the looks of it, the negative comments she has received may be blamed on the public.

While speaking with Express, relationship expert Sheela Mackintosh-Stewart said that royal fans were so delighted with Meghan’s inclusion into the royal family last year. But things quickly changed shortly after Meghan and Prince Harry’s wedding.

“Meghan started off very well in the public’s eye,” the expert said. “The UK welcomed her and wanted the couple to be happy. The public has always loved Harry and they saw Meghan as someone who made him truly happy. However, maybe she was put on an unrealistically high pedestal,” she said.

Mackintosh-Stewart said that at the end of the day, no person is perfect, and it’s impossible for an individual to live up to everyone’s expectations at all times. Since the beginning, Meghan already had to compete with the public’s high expectations of her.

“Being biracial, an actress, and an outspoken advocate entering the royal family, people had expected a lot from her. She is an amazing role model, however, perhaps too much was expected from her,” she said.

The expert also said that the public started developing negative feelings toward Meghan after Prince Harry’s wife started calling all the shots. For instance, the duchess has been adamant with promoting her privacy while still being involved with the charities and causes that are close to her heart.

Mackintosh-Stewart said that this is considered as an unexpected behavior from a member of the royal family. And it has also left royal fans feeling hurt.

“Right now, the public is hurting that Meghan hasn’t been as inclusive of them,” she said. “I think the privacy surrounding Archie’s christening and withholding the godparent’s names are good examples. She could have opened up a little more then. However, ultimately it is about finding the right balance and that will come with time,”

And just like with other relationships, the expert said that the more hurt a person feels, the more critical and resentful he or she becomes toward others. This is exactly what Meghan and the public are experiencing.
