Since joining the British royal family, Meghan Markle and by extension, Prince Harry, has become the favorite target of some of the nastiest criticisms leveled against a royal. Lately, talks have become so virulent that numerous personalities had to come forward to publicly throw their support behind the royal couple urging a stop to all the negativity.

People have been negatively commenting on almost everything Meghan does these days. According to Washington Post, the Duchess of Sussex, who recently became the guest editor of Vogue, was accused of “promoting herself than the Royal Family or Britain.”

She was even questioned why she didn’t include Queen Elizabeth II in the magazine’s cover. “You fail to nominate the one truly inspirational woman in your life, the Queen, whose years of selfless devotion to this country knock all of the others into a cocked hat,” wrote Sarah Vine in Daily Mail.

Previously, Meghan and Harry were also accused of being snobbish. This came from their preference to make Baby Archie’s christening a more intimate and private affair, as well as the duchess’ refusal to be photographed at Wimbledon.

Seeing the bullying directed at Meghan, a number of high-profile personalities came forward to show their support for her and Harry. “They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people,” Ellen DeGeneres tweeted. “Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.”

Music legend Elton John also came forward to slam the negative media coverage of the royal couple. “I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis,” the singer said.

However, “The Good Place” actress Jameela Jamil took a different approach and accused the British press of ganging up on Meghan just because of her mixed heritage. “Dear England and English press, just say you hate her because she’s black, and him for marrying a black woman and be done with it,” Jamil tweeted.

The actress also pointed out that the press’ bullying of the duchess is a bit obvious for all to see. “Your bullying is so embarrassing and obvious,” she said. “You’ve all lost your marbles. It’s 2019. Grow up.”

Jamil also defended the Sussexes after they were criticized for taking private planes. “And ALSO, it’s not safe for us to be on the same planes as royals or presidents you absolute muppets,” the actress wrote.

“They are prime targets for kidnap and sometimes assassination. It’s in the interest of us civilians to not be endangered by proximity to people in such powerful positions,” she continued.
