Prince Harry has always tried to live away from the spotlight. And during several occasions, he has said that he wants to raise his son as normal as possible despite Archie’s royal status.

But growing up, the Duke of Sussex didn’t experience the same thing from his dad, Prince Charles. In fact, the heir to the throne repeatedly instilled in Prince Harry’s mind that he’s not normal because he’s a member of the royal family.

“I am not normal,” he said. “Much as I’d like to be normal, I am not normal and my father reminds me of that the whole time,” he added.

During the same interview, Meghan Markle’s husband discussed the heartbreaking ways that the media has painted him to be. He said that he was always accused of being a playboy and a partygoer when he really isn’t.

Prince Harry also noted how the media would usually write about his late-night escapades at bars while forgetting that he’s a teenager who wants to have some fun. He said that there’s really nothing much he can do about it.

“William and I can’t be normal, but we grew up in the year 2000,” he said. “We are part of the Royal Family, but we’ve grown up surrounded by all our friends, it’s completely different from what other generations have been like. I’ve tried, we’ve both tried to be as normal as we can,” he continued.

In the book “Prince Harry: The Inside Story,” royal author Duncan Larcombe claimed that Prince Harry joined the military shortly after graduating from college in the hopes that it could diminish the public scrutiny that he was receiving. However, his career in the field didn’t last very long.

After serving in Afghanistan, the Duke of Sussex came up with the difficult decision to leave the force because he was causing more danger to his fellow soldiers. In 2015, he released a statement to the media.

“After a decade, moving on from the army has been a really tough decision,” he said. “I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had the chance to do some very challenging jobs and have met many fantastic people in the process.”
