Sofia Vergara has successfully managed to carve a niche for herself in Hollywood. She's one of the most popular actresses around, all thanks to her stint as Gloria Pritchett in "Modern Family."

However, before she bagged the role, back in 2000, Sofia was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She was lucky enough to find out about it in the initial stages, so without wasting any time, she underwent a rigorous round of medication.

The good part about it is that she finally emerged victorious over the ghastly illness. She beat cancer, but she still has to take daily medication to help regulate her metabolism.

Vergara didn't open up about cancer until 2011. She chose to keep mum all the while until she went all out about how hard it was fighting cancer. In various interviews, Vergara revealed that she felt that she was fortunate enough to have been diagnosed earlier than a lot of women, who don't find out about the disease until menopause — when it's already too late.

This wasn't the only hurdle she overcame. Vergara has had to face quite a few ups and downs in her life before she became a well-known face in the industry. She grew up in a large family and had five siblings. When she was trying her luck in Hollywood while shooting for one of her Latin American TV shows, she got to know that her older brother, Rafael, was shot while out walking.

Her younger brother, Julio, was caught in multiple drug-related arrests, which eventually led to him being exported to Columbo. She never commented on the issue, though.

Sofia Vergara is now all hale and hearty as she's in the best phase of her life. Her Instagram feed is proof of the same. Vergara is taking each day as it comes, living life to the fullest.

The "Modern Family" star is happily married to Joe Mangnaiello, who is years younger than her. The gorgeous couple got engaged in December 2014 and got married a year later in Florida.

Vergara and her husband shared the screen space for the first time in "Bottom Of The Ninth," which was released in July 2019.
