A migrant accused of being a sex offender was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in New Mexico, the agency said in a statement.

Concretely, the agency said it located Jesus Luis Cuevas Pacheco following the report of a disturbance in a town in the state involving threats to family members and the sale of drugs.

Then, agents went there to serve Cuevas a warrant for illegal reentry into the U.S. after deportation, but were met with resistance.

Cuevas Pacheco sought to flee in a vehicle, then on foot and proceeded to barricade himself inside a house in Vado. After failing to persuade him to come out, agents breached the house's door and apprehended him.

ICE noted that the man has an extensive criminal record in the U.S. and now faces charges of illegal reentry after deportation. He faces prison time and another removal from the U.S. He has a hearing scheduled for October 2.
