The White House announced Friday that it would allocate tens of millions of dollars in aid to finance the governments of Central America, in order to combat the root causes of illegal immigration. According to El Mundo, Washington has announced the launch of a program of 40 million dollars to improve security in Guatemala and a program of 25 million dollars to improve the services available to young people in El Salvador, a population vulnerable to organized crime.

The move reflects the concern of the Obama Administration for the issue of migration, which has been defined by the president himself as "a humanitarian crisis" due to the large number of children who venture to cross the border alone. Yesterday, Barack Obama spoke with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto concerning the problem and Vice President Joe Biden traveled to Guatamala on Friday to discuss the matter with other Latin American leaders.

The Administration has also announced that $ 9.6 million which will be sent to help El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, especially for those who are deported from the United States. According to Aljazeera, child migration is becoming a huge problem in the United Staes. "Forty-seven thousand child migrants have entered the US since October and 75 percent of them are from Central America. US officials predict that 60,000 or more may arrive by the end of 2014."
