The recent revelation made by the North Korean media suggests that Kim Jong Un is alive and doing well. The media recently published a letter written by the Supreme Leader to South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, congratulating him on the Freedom Day.
Because everything in North Korea is strictly controlled, the authenticity of the letter is difficult to prove. The letter is dated April 27, and is reported to be written by Kim himself.
Several conflicting reports have come in the recent past claiming that Kim Jong Un is not in the best of his health ever since he has has a cardiac surgery done. Some reports even claimed that he is in a vegetative state and slipped into a coma right after the surgery, while others claimed that he has contracted COVID-19.
The letter that addresses Ramaphosa emphasizes on the friendship between the two nations is bound to expand and further develop “unendingly.” In his letter, Kim is also said to have mentioned about Freedom Day, which is a public holiday celebrated across South Africa.
The news of Kim having written a letter comes a few days after a North Korean website published satellite images of the Wonsan compound where a train that belongs to the supreme leader is parked at the railway station. The Wonsan complex is a luxurious property of the country’s east coast that has all leisure activities such as a recreation center, a horse-racing track, a shooting range, and 9 large guest houses.
Kim is said to be recovering on the country’s east coast after undergoing cardiovascular surgery, owing to obesity, smoking, and stress from work. The reports of Kim not keeping well after the surgery started to surface after he failed to attend a major public event in the country, which has not happened in the past.
Even though no validated reports are confirming his health status, it may be too early to say when would he be seen publicly again. Kim writing a letter to South African President is the fourth notice in the country’s state media, highlighting the duties carried out by him after April 12, the day when reports of his ill-health started to surface.
