Media mogul and reality star Kim Kardashian has condemned the widespread raids by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the administration of President Donald Trump. In a heartfelt Instagram story, Kardashian challenged federal authorities, asserting that there must be "a better way" to enforce immigration law without tearing families apart or inciting fear.
"When we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up," Kardashian wrote. Her comments to over 350 million Instagram followers quickly went viral as the 44-year-old reality star made a rare political statement.
The timing of Kardashian's post comes amid a backdrop of turmoil: last Friday, sweeping federal immigration enforcement actions authorized by the Trump administration sparked mass arrests across Los Angeles, including downtown and surrounding areas. These actions, targeting undocumented individuals, triggered widespread demonstrations that have persisted throughout the week.
In an unprecedented move, federal officials deployed thousands of National Guard troops and around 700 Marines to the city. California Governor Gavin Newsom has publicly condemned the deployment, labeling it "provocative" and inflammatory, and has launched legal action challenging the federal presence.
"Growing up in LA, I've seen how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city. They are our neighbors, friends, classmates, coworkers, and family," Kardashian added. She also emphasized that when enforcement crosses the line into what she described as "inhumane" treatment, the public must hold those in authority accountable.
Adding to her emotional appeal, Kardashian wrote, "No matter where you fall politically, it's clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants. We can't turn a blind eye when fear and injustice keep people from living their lives freely and safely."
This statement represents a notable shift from Kardashian's previous public interaction with the Trump administration. In 2018, she played a pivotal role in securing a commutation for Alice Johnson, a nonviolent drug offender, an effort that earned her praise from the then-president. At the time, she declared she had "nothing bad to say about the president."
Kardashian began pursuing a career in law in 2019 and completed her legal studies last month. She has long been an advocate for criminal justice and aspires to become a lawyer, following in the footsteps of her father, the late Robert Kardashian.
