During the Los Angeles Film Festival's closing night on June 9, Mexican filmmakers, Alfonso Cuarón and Jonas Cuarón presented their thrilling film “Desierto.” Among those present were other members of the production team including producers, Carlos Cuarón and Alex Garcia, as well as Executive Producer, Nicolas Celis. Hours before the event, it was announced that “Desierto,” which stars Gael García Bernal, will be released in select U.S. theaters on October 14.

From Jonás Cuarón and Alfonso Cuarón, the acclaimed, award-winning filmmakers of “Gravity,” comes a unique, modern vision of terror. "Desierto" is a visceral, heart-pounding suspense-thriller packed with tension and suspense from start to finish, starring García Bernal (“The Motorcycle Diaries,” “Y Tu Mamá También” and “Mozart in the Jungle”) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“Watchmen”). What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing and primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they continuously discover there’s nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.

Jonas Cuarón, writer, producer and director of the film, explains "Desierto" discusses important issues and he hopes the audience takes something away from the thriller, which presents a sad and terrifying reality that thousands of hopeful immigrants face in the U.S.-Mexico border these days.

While the film’s official movie doesn’t include Trump’s offensive a clip was released voiced with part of the GOP candidate’s harsh speech given June of last year when he announced his presidential candidacy. “The U.S. has becoming a dumping ground for everybody else's problems. When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best,” the Trump voiceover says in the trailer. “They're sending people that have lots of problems. They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists and it's gotta stop, and it's gotta stop fast,” states the video.

"Desierto" releases in select theaters on October 14, 2016, ahead of the November elections.
