Locals Who Went To Inform Elderly Man About Wife's Death Finds Him Hanging Over Deep Well

An elderly couple died in two separate tragic incidents in the Idukki district of Kerala, India on Monday, Oct. 11.

72-year-old Sujatha, who was out on the road looking for her husband, Chidambaram, was killed in an accident after she was run over by a speeding motorcycle.

When local people went to inform Chidambaram about Sujatha's demise, the 75-year-old man was found hanging over a well near his printing press.

According to the local police, after Chidambaram did not return home from work on Monday, Sujatha went out looking for him at his press.

At around 7.30 p.m. Sujatha was crossing the road near the Moolamattom town when a speeding motorcycle, rode by a young man, identified Dhilu lost control and struck the elderly woman.

The onlookers rushed Sujatha and Dhilu to a nearby hospital where the woman was declared brought dead. Dhilu was being treated at the hospital for the injuries he suffered during the crash, Onmanorama reported.

Following the fatal accident, locals who knew the family went to the Chidambaram’s printing press to inform him about his wife’s sudden demise but they were shocked to find him hanging from a rope over a deep well.

The police and emergency services were alerted and the responding officials pronounced the elderly man dead. The body was recovered and sent to a medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The results were being awaited, police said.

According to the police, the exact cause or motive behind the man’s death is unclear at this time. An investigation has been initiated and the police are questioning the couple’s family and friends to gain a better insight into the probe.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further details were revealed at the time of this writing.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a father who could not bear the death of his son in a road accident died of cardiac arrest in the Nalgonda district of Telangana, India on Sunday night Oct.10.

52-year-old Gorla Indra Reddy a farmer residing in Chowdari Colony in Miryalaguda, died while he was being shifted to hospital after he collapsed on hearing the news of the death of his son, 30-year-old Bharath Reddy who was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Shettipalem in Miryalaguda Mandal.

Both father and son reportedly died within an hour.
