Florida Man Arrested After Live Streaming Crime On Facebook: Hits Newborn Baby pixabay

A man in Syracuse was arrested on Monday in connection with a shooting that had taken the life of an 11-month-old baby girl and left two other children injured. The suspect, 23-year-old Chavez Ocasio is now facing charges of second degree murder, second degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and violation of parole.

Ocasio was arrested in 2015 on burglary in the second degree, which is a Class C felony in New York. He was released on parole in September 2019.

According to the Investigative Bureau Chief Derek McGork, two women were driving when shots were fired from a passing car.

Ocasio opened fire on a black Ford Fusion in the 300 block of Grant Avenue near South Geddes Street. Shakema Buckmon was driving the Fusion, and was accompanied in the front passenger seat by Desiree Seymore. Buckmon sped off to get away from the gunman and headed east to Lincoln Avenue, where Seymore’s cousin lives.

"They drove away as they were being shot at. After she realized the children were injured, she stopped and called 911," McGork said.

At least five shots were fired at the car, according to court papers. But the women were not harmed.

The children were shot while in the back of a vehicle at around 6:51pm on Sunday. They stopped after realizing the children had been shot and called 911 to get help. The baby, Dior Harris, was shot several times and died from her injuries at Upstate Medical Hospital.

Syracuse.com said she is the youngest known victim of street violence in the city’s history. Her first birthday would have been on April 29.

The two children injured were both girls aged three and eight. Syracuse Police Chief Kenton T. Buckner said they are both in stable condition, CNN reported. However, Buckner said it is still unclear if the attack was targeted.

Ocasio was booked Monday and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Tuesday. He is facing life in prison and is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center, according to OCDA. He's expected in court on Friday.
