In early May, it was announced that iconic Mexican rock band Maná has partnered with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in an effort aimed at protecting the environment and addressing the effects of climate change.

Named after their hit 1992 song, “¿Dónde jugarán los niños?,” the campaign launched with an open competition in which people from Latin American and the Caribbean will have the opportunity to produce a video based on the song. This creative initiative hopes to spread powerful messages related to the challenges facing the region's environment.

The rules of the video contest have been revealed and this is how fans can participate:

  • Visit the contest's official website: www.dondejugaran.org
  • The video must include Maná's song "¿Dónde jugarán los niños?," during its entire duration. The song is available for download on the site.
  • The video can be filmed with any device: cellphone, photo camera, video camera, etc.
  • Winner must have a a master copy to export.
  • Video must be uploaded to Vimeo and provided with a download option.
  • Fill out the registration form on the contest's website.
  • Deadline to submit a video is July 31.

From the submitted bunch, 30 videos will be pre-selected and posted on the website, where fans will have the opportunity to vote once a day for three weeks. The top 10 videos with most likes will head to the final round, where a winner will be chosen. The winning video will be based on votes, creativity and relation to the environment.

“We all have to do our part to both help and educate,” said frontman Fher Olvera in a press statement. “The band hopes to be an inspiration for the millions of young people that will be the ones making the big decisions in the future. We have a great opportunity through this agreement with the IDB to do more things together and encourage people to act locally so we can affect global changes.”
