While life at Old Trafford certainly has been difficult at times this season, Manchester United first-year boss David Moyes and club executives have reason to be optimistic about the future for a few reasons. Though United currently sits seventh in the competitive Barclays Premier League and 12 points out of the fourth position, the longer Moyes remains on the sideline the more opportunity he’ll have to implement his system, something multiple players have said in the past takes time. With a large financial backing heading into the upcoming offseason as well, Moyes will have the chance to solidify his already talented roster with some of the most high-profile and gifted athletes in professional football. For now, he’ll continue to endure the downtrodden times that were recently made worse with a home loss to rival Manchester City.

“I take responsibility,” the former Everton boss said after the 3-0 defeat in the Manchester Derby. “I have to be the one who plays them, picks them and that is what it is. I don’t think tonight was in any way down to a lack of effort or lack of commitment from the players, in fact I thought they were fully there but in some areas we didn’t come up to scratch. We never gave ourselves a great opportunity to get into the game. I think we only touched it twice, a block and we might have kicked one out for a throw in before they got the goal. Everyone knows this is going to be a job which is going to take a little bit of time to get the way we would like it but that is the job and I recognize that.”

If he’s able to hang onto his post as Manchester United boss, David Moyes is expected to work tirelessly at upgrading the Red Devils roster this summer. While big names in Marco Reus, Tony Kroos, William Carvalho and Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay have all been linked with possible moves to Old Trafford, current Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri is becoming a popular topic of discussion concerning United transfer moves. A 22-year-old who continues to rise in talent, Shaqiri could grow interested in a move away from the Bundesliga giants in order to receive extensive playing time, something that hasn’t happened under boss Pep Guardiola.

“Xherdan is 22,” the winger’s brother and agent Erdin said recently when asked about the player’s future. “You need to win regular minutes at this age and that, right now, is not the case. We are now waiting until the summer. When clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan or other top clubs want to talk, then we will certainly listen to them. Bayern will remain the first club we’ll talk to before we start talking to other clubs.”

Linked to numerous clubs, it remains to be seen if Shaqiri will further pursue an exit from Germany but for now, the situation will certainly be one to keep an eye on.
