Matt Sandusky the adopted son of Jerry Sandusky has filed a motion to have his last name legally changed, according to court documents from the Centre County, Pennsylvania. And while the details regarding the exact reason for seeking a name change is sealed from the public, we are assuming it has to do with his father Jerry Sandusky and his involvement in the sexual abuse scandal that occurred at Penn State.
Matt Sandusky is not the only one seeking a legal name change, his wife and four children are also filing to shed the now disgrace Sandusky name. Matt's father Jerry Sandusky is the former defensive coordinator for Penn State football, he was arrested in November of 2011 on charges that he sexually abused young boys that he encountered through his personal charity, The Second Mile. In June of 2012, Jerry Sandusky was convicted on a staggering 45 counts of abuse involving 10 male victims, for which he is currently serving 30 years in prison.
Matt is one of Sandusky's six adopted children and also admitted to being one of his victims. While he initialing denied any sexual abuse at the hands of his adoptive father, Matt later admitted the truth to his attorney during jury deliberations. Matt revealed the reasons why after so many years he opened up about the abuse, "I mean for my family so that they can really have closure and see what the truth actually is," he said. "And just to right the wrong, honestly, of going to the grand jury and lying."
Matt revealed shocking details about the abuse to CNN saying, "If you were pretending you were asleep and if you were touched or rubbed in some way you could just act like you were rolling over in your sleep, so that you could change positions." He also said Sandusky would rub his genitals, or the area around them.
The sexual abuse of the 10 other victims took place over a 15 year period, with most of the abuse taking place on Penn State's campus. Shockingly, Matt Sandusky's birth mother had lost a case against Jerry Sandusky in which she sought to gain legal custody of her biological son when he was still a child.
