The New York Mets have re-signed center fielder Brandon Nimmo in addition to adding relief pitcher David Robertson.

Nimmo and the Mets agreed on an eight-year, $162 million deal to remain in Flushing. Re-signing Nimmo was a major priority for the Mets considering they don’t have a secondary center field option. Nimmo had a career year with 16 homers, 64 RBIs, and slashed .274/.367/.433 in 151 games.

Nimmo had interested in teams that needed a defensive outfielder with a solid bat including the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners.

Robertson inked a one-year, $10 million contract to improve the Mets' pitching staff. In his first full year since Tommy John's surgery, Robertson returned to his shutdown reliever form. The 37-year-old had a 2.40 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and tallied 81 strikeouts in 63.2 innings splitting time with the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies.

With these latest transactions, the Mets are projected to have a $333 million payroll entering 2023 according to Spotrac, a new MLB record. In addition to Nimmo and Robertson, the Mets signed Edwin Diaz, Justin Verlander, and Jose Quintana this offseason.
