"If I had known we would be that fast, I would have shaved," said a scruffy Carl Edwards after he grabbed pole at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday. No worries Edwards, you started "Movember" just fine!

Carl Edwards didn't finish his qualifying run with a lot of confidence. "I don't think the lap was that spectacular from a driving standpoint and I messed up off Turn 2, but Turns 3 and 4 were great and we got the pole, so that was a lot of fun," reflected Edwards. Ultimately, Edwards posted a lap of 196.114 mph, just a tiny shave quicker than Ford teammate Brad Keselowski, who posted 196.100.

As it turns out, the Texas Motor Speedway turned out to be quite the challenge for many drivers on the grid. Jimmie Johnson, who will start third on Sunday, decribed a tense moment that nearly spelled disaster. Johnson's car got a little loose on his qualifying lap, causing his right rear to lightly tap against the wall, scraping off just the taillight sticker.

"I hate to admit it, but at one point I think I had my eyes shut because I knew there was going to be contact," Johnson said. "I just didn't know how much." Johnson is also currently tied with Matt Kenseth for the points lead. Kenseth qualified a little farther back in sixth, behind Paul Menard and teammate Kyle Busch.

Finally, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Marcos Ambrose round out the top 10 qualifiers ahead of Sunday's AAA Texas 500.
