Bentley has revealed the new Continental GT Speed, its latest greatest, and fastest production model ever.
Since the first Continental GT was first released in 2003, it has become the best selling vehicle in the marques history. Choosing not to mess with success, the Continental GT has enjoyed steady evolutionary refinement rather than risk alienation after a major redesign.
In its latest 2013 GT Speed guise, the W-12 engine will deliver an asphalt rippling 616-hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque. According to Bentley, the GT Speed will be capable of 205 mph, and will catapult from 0-to-60 mph in just 4.0 seconds. In the supercar realm, 4.0 second acceleration might seem modest. However, keep in mind that the Bentley's all-wheel-drive grand tourer weighs close to 5,000 lbs.
Strong enough to cope with the torque yet providing the right gearing to deliver improved responsiveness and efficiency, the close-ratio ZF 8-speed automatic transmission also features an intelligent adaptive software control system, which Bentley claims to improve gas mileage by up to 12 percent.
All that power will require a sticky contact patch to put it all down. The Bentley Continental GT Speed will feature a unique set of 21-inch wheels wrapped in 275/35 Pirelli P Zero ultra high-performance tires. Other exterior enhancements include a dark-tinted matrix front grille and lower air intakes, while the exhaust tips get a 'rifled' finish.
Look for the official unveiling of the new Bentley Continental GT Speed at the upcoming June 28 Goodwood Festival of Speed. In the meantime, enjoy the images!
