After reading this you'll never blow your nose without freaking out again, so say the people in the office at the Latin Times. Joe Nagy believed his yearlong runny nose was a case of allergies. As it turns out his nose was leaking brain fluid.
Not realizing that his runny nose was really leaking brain fluid Nagy was never without a pocketful of tissues. He first noticed his runny nose when he sat up in bed and "Brooop! This clear liquid dribbled out of my nose like tears out of your eyes," Nagy said to his local Fox 10 station.
Nagy explained to Fox how embarrassing his chronic runny nose was. He admits there have been times when he could not get to his tissues fast enough. Nagy was looking at blue prints for his model airplanes when about a teaspoon full of his brain fluid splashed down onto the paper.
"I said these damn allergies. I was embarrassed has hell," Nagy explained to Fox.
Finally after a year of his nose leaking brain fluid Nagy went to see an allergy specialist still believing allergies was all it was.
After the doctor tested the substance leaking from Nagy's nose and determined it was brain fluid the cause of the leak was also discovered. There was a small hole in the membrane surrounding Nagy's brain. This caused the fluid to travel down and leak out of his nose.
"I was scared to death if you want to know the truth," Nagy told Fox.
Nagy's doctor scheduled a surgery to repair the hole and stop his nose from leaking brain fluid. Just before Nagy was to have his surgery he developed a case of meningitis. Doctors had to wait for the infection to clear and then performed the surgery. They repaired the tiny hole with surgical glue.
Joe Nagy is much happier since his surgery. Since the hole was repaired his nose has not leaked any brain fluid.
"I was waiting for the dribble," Nagy told Fox. "I was so used to it every day. I got my hankie, nothing. It's never come back."
