On May 2, People En Español will unveil their famous edition of “Los 50 Más Bellos” or “The 50 Most Beautiful” where we will see a gorgeous face that has been gracing our screens for over 60 years and still manages to look incredible, Rita Moreno. This legendary actress, the first and only Latina to be an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards) winner will be honored at the party, happening on May 12.
She was selected as the recipient of the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award (Ícono de People en Español), which Ricky Martin will present to her. She will be recognized for her unprecedented contributions to the arts and for breaking down barriers for Latinas in Hollywood and worldwide throughout her career. “Rita Moreno is part of our history at People en Español,” said People en Español Editor Armando Correa.
“This year we dedicated our 50 Most Beautiful issue to a new generation of entertainers, a generation that would not be where it is today had it not been for all the barriers that Rita Moreno has broken down in her own stellar, six-decade long career,” Correa added. The People en Español Lifetime Achievement Award was established in 2012 to celebrate the best in Hispanic entertainment by honoring outstanding figures in entertainment whose careers have gone beyond their art. Previous honorees include international music icons Luis Miguel and Gloria Estefan.
Moreno won an Oscar for her portrayal of Anita in the film adaptation of “West Side Story.” She has starred on Broadway and the West End, and has appeared on many TV shows. She will be seen on the big screen in Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks. She recently wrote her autobiography "Rita Moreno: A Memoir," which became a 2013 bestseller.
