Mexican artist Peso Pluma has shared a powerful message in support of immigrant communities and in condemnation of recent ICE raids carried out in Los Angeles and other parts of the United States.
In a statement posted to his Instagram account, Peso Pluma, whose real name is Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija, along with his management team at Prajin Parlay and his label Double P Records, expressed heartbreak over the situation unfolding in Los Angeles and across the country.
The message comes amid growing outrage after three days of resistance in Southern California, where immigration agents have detained undocumented individuals, including farmworkers, sparking street protests in downtown L.A. and demonstrations in other major cities like Seattle, Chicago, and New York.
"As children of immigrants and immigrants ourselves, we know this struggle firsthand. As children of immigrants and immigrants ourselves, we know this struggle personally. We know the strength it takes to build a life, to sacrifice everything for a better future, and to keep moving forward even when the odds are stacked against you.," the statement reads. It was published in English.
Here is the full message:
We are deeply heartbroken over what is happening in Los Angeles and all across the country. This country was built by our ancestors, hard working immigrants who came to this country to build a better life for us.
The raids, the fear, the separation of families — it's painful to witness, and even more painful to know that so many of our own are living in constant uncertainty. As children of immigrants and immigrants ourselves, we know this struggle personally. We know the strength it takes to build a life, to sacrifice everything for a better future, and to keep moving forward even when the odds are stacked against you.
At Double P Records and Prajin Parlay we want our community to know that you are not alone. We see you and we stand with you. We will continue to support through meaningful donations and partnerships and as part of that, have made contributions to the following organizations in case you too wish to get involved.
The peaceful and non violent fight for justice, dignity, and humanity for our immigrant community is one we are proud to be part of.
With strength, solidarity, and love,
Double P Records & Prajin Parlay
