Today is the third anniversary of Nintendo 3DS, which was first released back in 2011 on this date! Since its initial release the popular Nintendo handheld console has sold over 42 million devices in various forms including the 3DS XL and non-3d console 2DS. While that is a major success for the company it still falls short of its predecessor the Nintendo DS, which sold 154 million worldwide. As part of the consoles anniversary to help sales Nintendo has decided to entice gamers with a new promotion.

Starting March Nintendo is making it possible for gamers to get a digital copy of “Pokemon X” or “Pokemon Y completely free! Yes, you read that right! However there is a catch as with any promotion. First gamers will need to purchase a 3DS XL, 3DS or 2DS. Then you will need to register it to your Club Nintendo account at any time during March. Lastly, you will need to purchase at least one of the following titles: “Animal Crossing: New Leaf,” “Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D,” “Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins,” “Mario Kart 7,” “Super Mario 3D Land” or “Yoshi’s New Island.”

When you register any one of those games along with your new Nintendo DS handheld console you will get a free copy of “Pokemon X” or “Pokemon Y.” Just keep in mind that in order to utilize this promotion this all has to be done before Mar. 31.
