Porsche halted the delivery of its 911 GT3 and asked its GT3 owners to avoid driving their cars last month when a series of fires caused the Stuttgart automaker to launch an official investigation. Now, Porsche has announced a solution to the fire hazard: a complete engine replacement.

Porsche spokesperson Nick Twork spoke to the media and confirmed that engine replacements are in order for all 785 affected Porsche 911 GT3 sports cars. According to Twork, the culprit resonsible for the fire hazard are defective connecting rod fasteners.

“We are in the process of validating the revised part,” said Nick Twork in a telephone interview. “We will be replacing the engines in each of the 911 GT3s that have been built thus far.”

While a timeline to the fix has yet to be announced, Rennlist forum users have reported that they have received notifications from their dealers earlier on Monday.

No doubt, Porsche customers that own a GT3 are among the most loyal to the brand. The $131,000 sports car represents the ultimate expression of Porsche racing heritage in the 911 model range. As the reputation of the GT3, and of the brand itself is at stake, Porsche is making a point to speak to each 911 GT3 customer individually to offer complete transparency in regards to the Porsche 911 GT3 fire defect.

Not only will Porsche compensate the owners with a complete engine replacement, but Porsche promises to perform the recall with as littel inconvenience to the customers as possible.
