Prince Charles, as a young boy, is shy, and this could be because he grew up lonely. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was always overseas to fulfill her royal duties, so she rarely spent time with him. On the other hand, he wasn’t close to Prince Philip as he was very strict with him.

With his constant separation from Her Majesty and with his father being a harsh disciplinarian, he had a tough childhood, but then he still managed to be naughty at times. He may have developed this cheeky side because, though his parents weren’t around, he was spoiled by his grandmother, the Queen Mother.

Queen Elizabeth I was very close to Prince Charles, and she always encouraged him and appreciated his sensitivity. However, it was said that since he was being spoiled, his timidity and tendency to fuss were only amplified as per Vintage News.

His cheekiness may have also resulted from the fact that he knew that his grandmother will always be by his side. One of the times when he showed his mischievous personality was when he traveled with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

While on tour, he did something that would have angered people with little self-control. But fortunately, they were able to endure Prince Charle’s patience-testing antics.

Express reported that the family was on board a royal yacht and were heading to Canada. Robert Hardman, a royal biographer, wrote in his book titled “Queen Of The World” that the young prince really tested the patience of the crew who were with them at that time.

“En route to the Isle of Man, he kicked his football over the side and asked his Sea Daddy if he could get it back,” he wrote. “The request was passed up to Vice Admiral Abel Smith, who agreed it might be a useful exercise in seamanship to lower a boat to retrieve it and the Prince regarded this as enormous fun and, soon afterward, cheekily kicked his ball over the side once more.”

Apparently, the young Prince Charles showed himself to be just like other ordinary kids who annoy people. Then again, it was said that the yacht’s crew members didn’t tolerate the heir to the throne’s obvious naughtiness because the second time he kicked the ball, Hardman wrote that the prince “never saw the ball again.”
