Princess Diana had a complicated relationship with Prince Charles, Queen Elizabeth and the other members of the royal family. Decades ago, she was forced to cut ties with them after her divorce from the heir to the throne.
But in the beginning of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage, both parties still tried to exert the effort to make things work. And even though Balmoral is not necessarily the late royal’s favorite hangout spot, she still went there for Her Majesty.
Earlier this week, an unearthed video showed the three royals during their happier days with each other. In the clip, the monarch is dancing with Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
The footage was taken at the Ghillies Ball, and the royals took part in the traditional Scottish country dance. The Queen couldn’t stop smiling in the video. She’s wearing a blue long-sleeved dress, and she also has her tiara.
Her Majesty is swirling around in the middle of a circle that was made by the royals. Before this, Prince Philip also held on to his wife’s hand as they were dancing.
Prince Andrew and Princess Anne are also featured in the clip. At one point, a smiling Princess Diana holds Prince Andrew’s hand. Prince Andrew and Princess Anne also locked their arms while grinning from ear to ear.
Years later, royal fans learned that things are not always what they seem in the royal family. In fact, even though Prince Charles and Princess Diana always looked happy and at peace when they were out in public, this wasn’t exactly the case behind closed doors.
Princess Diana was aware that Prince Charles was having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, and this made her furious. The late royal, who developed insecurities from when she was still a child, didn’t know how to love and take care of Prince Charles.
Prince Charles didn’t also know how to deal with his ex-wife’s mood swings and unreasonable outbursts. After 11 years of marriage, the royal couple decided to call it quits. Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce was finalized in 1996.
