When Prince Charles becomes king, he will also become the Head of the Church. According to royal experts, he will be making some changes on this front and he already has some ideas about how to go about it.
According to Robert Jobson, Prince Charles will be doing things “a little differently” when he takes on the role as the Head of the Church of England, Express reported. Former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey also feels that the next monarch “wants to chart new territory” when it comes to religion in the U.K.
In his book “Charles at Seventy,” Jobson noted that Prince Charles has been studying different religions to have a “balanced understanding” of the world. He also noted that whenever the future monarch went around the country to meet people, he always made sure that he met with people from different communities like Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, and Christians.
Prince Charles has reportedly studied the Islamic holy book the Koran “in-depth,” and he has also been studying the Arabic language for years. He is also deeply interested in Judaism and is said to be close to the former Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks.
Talking about Islam and Judaism, Prince Charles reportedly feels that the two religions have a “great deal in common” with Christianity. He feels that the future will be about “ rediscovering the universal truths that dwell at heart of these religions.”
How will Prince Charles’ knowledge and experience with different religions affect his policies as the Head of the Church. Jobson wrote that “interfaith dialogue” will be high on the agenda at that time because the royal believes that “talking openly and honestly” will strengthen the different communities.
Prince Charles has faced some backlash in the past for his comments when it comes to religion. In a previous trip to Taj Mahal, when he was asked about the monument the Mogul king had build for his wife, the British royal joked that he was encouraged by the fact that if he ever became a Muslim he could have “lots of wives,” Express reported.
