Queen Elizabeth still has a flawless body, according to Prince Philip. Whether it is a joke or not, it could be quite a bold statement for a royal.
Prince Philip has a record of making bold comments though, most of these jokes, over the years. Some of them did not even sit well with his wife. His latest one though can be quite shocking for some.
Married to the Queen for over seven decades now, the Duke of Edinburgh could still rub his wife the wrong way sometimes. Still, their relationship is an exemplar of a good marriage - with ups and downs, but still going strong. The key must be their shared sense of humor, because the Prince is said to have played various pranks on his wife through the years and made some weird comments about her, sometimes eliciting a good laugh.
However, according to Daily Mirror, Prince Philip once commented on the Queen that people do not quite know how to respond to, not sure if this is too sweet or too crass. The magazine’s ex-royal correspondent James Whitaker shared that one time.
Prince Philip’s cousin Patricia Mountbatten complimented the Queen for her skin. instead of just properly thanking his cousin or making some safe comment, the Prince reportedly joked that the Queen’s like that all over. This incident was still back in 2007, but that’s still cute if one thinks about it, if they could get over the fact that it was the Prince that said it.
Still, to be fair to the Prince, it has been said that he has never been too coy about his comments about anything anyway. As early as 1992, he said that he would have preferred to stay in the Navy instead of marrying his wife. Although he did not say directly that he regretted his marriage, some have taken his comments to mean that way.
The duke’s biographer Gyles Brandreth even asked him once how he perceived himself as the Queen’s spouse and he made a shocking reply. “I don’t know,” he said. “A refugee husband, I suppose,” Philip complained. “I’m nothing but a bloody amoeba. I am the only man in the country not allowed to give his name to his children.”
Considering that decades past already since these comments were made, it could be concluded that his bluntness did not break their relationship. Nothing probably would now.
